A small motor like a corkscrew called a spermbot is used to propel apathetic sperm towards their destination. It is regulated by magnetism and functions by initially encircling the sperm's tail before accelerating it in the direction of and ideally into an egg.

Once the sperm lodges in the egg wall, the helix then reverses direction to release the sperm. If the approach can be optimised in the human fallopian tube it might allow some couples to conceive with artificial insemination rather than the more complex and costly in vitro fertilization, where eggs are removed and fertilized in a dish. But this technique would demand highly sophisticated imaging process to guide and monitor the path of sperms in real-Time basis.
Researchers say they’re still grappling with challenges when it comes to achieving successful fertilization with artificially guided sperms.
It may be a while before we see spermbots in clinical human trials. However, it's exciting to consider that little devices like spermbots might one day assist in the conception of new life.
