A image of a woman who had taped a cabbage leaf to her knee was published in the British Medical Journal's "Minerva" section, which collects intriguing small tidbits. She claimed the remedy was the only one that helped her osteoarthritis symptoms. In my blog, Benefits of Cabbage Leaves on the Knee for Osteoarthritis is illustrated.

In European folk medicine, cabbage leaves—also referred to as "the poor man's poultice"—have been used to ease painful swelling. Knee osteoarthritis is one of the most prevalent chronic disorders among elderly people. Patients with osteoarthritis were randomly assigned to one of three groups for a month: those who received "standard treatment," a topical pain gel containing an anti-inflammatory, or those who received daily application of cabbage leaves to their knees.
Regarding pain, functional impairment, and quality of life, the daily cabbage leaf wraps were superior to standard care, but not when compared to a month of topical medicine use.

Considering that cabbage leaves are "safe and may be utilized in the longer term," it would be worthwhile to give them a try to ease knee osteoarthritis discomfort.
Consuming cabbage may be advantageous as cruciferous vegetables have been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. For instance, after just 10 days of consuming broccoli, smokers' C-reactive protein levels dropped by 40%.It has been demonstrated in vitro that the powerful chemical sulforaphane, found in crucifers, guards cartilage against deterioration.
Sulforaphane was indeed found in the synovial fluid of osteoarthritis patients after broccoli consumption when examined in humans as opposed to in a petri dish.
